Please Donate to Support Children with Autism and their Families
MAP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which has been designated as a tax exempt organization by the IRS. MAP will provide documentation letters to acknowledge your gift for accounting and tax-return purposes.
The vast majority of our funds go directly to scholarships that help families pay for intervention programming. Your gift directly benefits the children, families and programs served by The Michigan Autism Partnership (MAP). MAP funds have been used for:
- The PLAY Project scholarships
- Educational events on autism
- Parent-professional partnership events
- Building an autism resource library
MAP welcomes cash donations, and donations of gift certificates or goods that could be auctioned off at one of our fundraisers. We host an annual golf outing each July at the University of Michigan.
Donations can be made through PayPal or by check, made payable to “Michigan Autism Partnership,” 1601 Briarwood Circle, Suite 500, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
A Note From Richard Solomon, MD, Chairman of the Board:
Hello,
I am a Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician who works with hundreds of children with autism and their families in Michigan.
I want to make you aware of autism, its devastating impact and the financial burden that this condition is placing on families. We do not know why, but autism is increasing at 15% per year here in Michigan and throughout the United States. Generally these children lead very isolated lives, not knowing how to communicate or engage with their caregivers. There are mild forms and severe forms of autism, and the condition is generally referred to as autism spectrum disorder. Parents often feel devastated by the loss of relationship with their child. I diagnose this condition and my practice is overwhelmed with families trying to learn what has happened to their baby.
There is now strong evidence that treatment can make a major difference in the lives of these children. Children with autism need intensive intervention to overcome this isolation. This means that these children need hours per day of one-on-one engaging care. At 20 to 40 hours per week the cost of care can really add up - $10,000 to $50,000 per year – for multiple years. MAP provides families scholarships for services that meet the National Academy of Sciences recommendations.
Please consider giving a gift to help families help their children. Even a donation of $10 or $20 can make a difference.
I and our families thank you for your generosity.
Most sincerely,
Richard Solomon, MD
